I guess that in our society there are a lot of hidden dilemas kept unknown to the public. But president Obama finally brought to the light one of many problems; and according to Paul Begala, a CNN political commentator, the president did a good job, on his speech explaining how the insurance company’s are scamming theyre clients. Paul loved Obama’s speech so much because of what it accomplished: “ It rallied dispirited Democrats, reasured disenchanted independents and intimidated Republicans. He called a lie a lie, and pledged to call out the right-wing thugs if (well, when) they continue lying…”. Obama didn’t think it was a good thing to do to blow off they’re clients in need. Hopefully this speech changes the way the insurance company’s are treating they’re customers.

In my previous blog, I talked about how the Salahis, which are the couple that attended to the state dinner, were able to get in The White House without an invitation. After listened and watched new reports about this controversial issue, I decide to research more information about it.

In my new research, I found a report that talks about the US secret service agents who let the couple enter to state dinner. Mark Sullivan, director of the Secret Service, expressed that this situation is embarrassed and that this must not happen again. He adds that he had identified the agents that were responsible for this and they had been suspended.

Event the agents recall that this couple went through a metal detector and that Obama was not in danger, they still were suspended, because according to security experts it is not enough for prevent an attack. They said, “Although the Salahis went through a metal detector, a determined terrorist could have found other means to inflict harm, including smuggling a biological weapon into the White House”.

This incident had shocked Obama and society; as a result, Obama said, that he does not trust not more the secret service because that day could be fatal if something had happen.

I believe that everything happen for a reason, and this event happen to let Obama knows how irresponsible are the security doing their work.

The secret service of Obama apologizes after failing doing its work when couple, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, managed to slip into Tuesday night’s state dinner at the White House. This couple attended to dinner without an invitation and met the president Obama in the receiving line. The secret service cannot understand how Michaele and Tareq Salahi slipped through its usually tight security.

Obviously, this event got us thinking about how weak our security is because if this happened in the White House then how they pretend that we can trust “our” security in the state. In addition, the secret services added that this couple went through a metal detector which is not sufficient to protect the president’s life due to the fact that they could attacked in other ways like using biological weapons or grabbing knives to attack the president.

In L.A. Times, they presented the opposite view of this event. “If these had been terrorists or psychopaths who had anthrax or training in the martial arts, and who were arm in arm with the vice president and Cabinet officials, they could in a matter of seconds have killed someone”.

Now, this couple is under investigation to know the exactly reasons of why they assisted to a dinner where they were not invited.

I pretty sure that they going to say something really interesting or “invent an story” , so they cannot received any penalty, plus knowing that they are rich people.

One more time, this is an example of how appearance can obtain anything “free dinner” without invitation, funny huh?….. secret services have to admit that this couple could got in because their appearance rich people of course they going to think they are invited. Right?….

Student from across the state decided to protest after UC regents approved a massive fee increase starting next semester. The 32 percent increase, which would begin by fall, will add $2,500 to tuition, bringing it over $10,000.This decision caused controversy between UCLA students; consequently, they decided to march at the campus to express their angry. According to “The LA Times”, the protest got ugly when UCLA students took over Campbell Hall causing the cancellation of classes. Due to this many students were arrested and cited and others suffered minor injuries, but nothing serious.

In addition, they argue that this decision is going to affect them in many ways, one of those is that it is going to be difficult to afford school and that it would be sadder when they have to take the decision of leaving the school to go to a cheaper one.

I believe that this is a painful decision for all UC students because they worked hard to be accepted in prestigious schools, so it would be depressing for them to go back and start again.

( From L.A Times)

If you checked my last blog, you are going to realize that this one is about the same topic (swine flu); however, this blog is going to be focus in the opinion of the people about getting or not getting the swine flu vaccine.

As concern spreads about H1N1 flu, a new survey had found that “while most people consider the vaccine safe, a majority had no plans to get vaccinated. This survey also found that Blacks and Latinos are those that do not believe in the vaccine. After hearing many bad comments about it, such the young woman that walks backwards and cannot talk after receiving the vaccine, they decided not to take it. They said that they want to avoid any reaction or consequences that the vaccine could cause. In addition, the results of the survey showed that the majority of the people said that “they not plan to get it” while the minority said, “They already had attempted to find it but failed”, and the question about if it is safe or not keep in their minds and this is causing them not to take it seriously. The y added that Black and Latinos are among those most at risk from the “swine flu”, due to this, they started working to rebuild people’s faith.

I am personally believe that each person must have the right to decide if they want to take or not take the vaccine, and that this organizations do not have to try to convince them to get it. Each person has a different system so the reactions could be different, some might be serious reactions while others could not have any.

After I heard my classmate talking about the young woman that walks backwards and cannot talk after receiving the “famous flu shot”, I decided to search more information about it. When I heard my classmate telling us about the consequences that the flu shot could cause, I shocked because it is unbelievable that a vaccine that was make with the purpose of control and prevent illness is causing disability.

The woman that she was talking about is Desiree Jennings, who after receiving the “flu shot” she started having rare symptoms that were deteriorating her health. Now she is in the fight of her life because this “flu shot” caused her serious complications. Desiree has trouble talking and walking, she cannot speaks well and she walks only backwards, but the sad part of this story is that these effects that the “flu shot” caused to her are irreversible.

Desiree has many questions that have not been answer yet; she cannot understand why this is happening to her due to the fact that she always was a healthy woman. She added that she has seen many doctors that cannot explain this rare effects because the “flu shot” is safe and they discard the idea of that this disability was caused for it. Only one doctor diagnosed her with “dystonia”, but she insist that the “flu shot” was that one that changed her life.

There is no cure for this disease and now she has to live with it the rest of her life.

Reading this story and watching the videos of Desiree Jennings, make me feel unsure about going and take the “flu shot” due to the fact that there are many cases in where people are suffering the rare effects of this vaccine. Therefore, I personally believe that people should think twice before taking it because at this time there is more evidence about the bad effects than the good ones.

Instead of feeling better, sometimes people feel worse after long hours asleep. This article that was post in CNN website present evidence of a 2007 finish study that found that too much sleep is almost as bad as too little sleep. They argue that people who sleep too long present poor quality due to the fact that they feel exhausted the next day. In the other hand, they points out that not getting enough sleep could cause serious consequences such as traffic accidents, weight gain and a decrease of productivity. . In addition, sleep experts say that more than ten hours can cause serious health problems and it is a good idea to try to change this habit. also, they say that when people sleep too long they feel exhausted because they are in a state called “drunkenness” that is when a person hovers between sleep and wakefulness.

Reading this article made me feel confuse because I had read some articles where “studies” say that long sleep is good for our healthy. Also, I had heard that it could help us to avoid wrinkles and to have a better digestion. So, I just can conclude that they are not really sure about their “studies” because they are presenting new information that is contradictory to that presented in the past.

A Southern California immigrant rights group asked Target stores to stop selling a Halloween “illegal alien” costume it said is offensive to immigrants.
The costume that was selling for “ $39.99 comes with a space alien mask, an orange jail suit with “illegal alien” stamped on the chest and a large “green card.” , .
People said that this costume is disturbing, even more in this time when many people is asking to the President Barack Obama to respect their rights. Due to this controversy the costume was remove from websites and stores.

This article is about a woman who drank poison was allowed to die in a British hospital after handing doctors a living will begging them not to save her life. But why this article is causing controversy?

This woman decides to committed suicide because she was depressed over her inability to have kids. The controversy that this article is causing is that why Doctors let her died if she was alive when she arrived at the hospital. Well, Doctors decided not to save her because when she arrived at the hospital she gave them a letter addressed to “To whom this may concern.” “If I come into hospital regarding an overdose or any attempt of my life, I would like for NO life saving treatment to be given,” she wrote in the letter. Therefore, doctors decided not to help her because they were afraid to face charges if they saved her life; however, her family had said doctors have tried to saved her and despite her written instructions.

I understand the bad part of this situation, which is, doctors letting her die. But why her family and people are making this situation bigger if she decided to end with her life. I believe that every person has the right to do with her or his life whatever she or he wants. I know this sounds rude and cruel of my part but this is true. What can we do if they are taking their own decisions? We do not know their reasons, we do not know if they are suffering. So then why make this bigger. The only thing that we have to do is let her go.

In (L.A. New York Times), I found an article that captured my attention. It was present with the title of “Budget cuts push some classrooms way over capacity”. I believe that this article is interesting because as a student I need to know what is going on with education issues.
Pretty much, it talks about how budget cuts have hit almost every school; also, it presents testimonies of teachers that are dealing with this problem.

Reading this and some other articles relate with this problem make me disappointed in Governor Schwarzenegger for choosing to cut funds for schools and programs that are necessary for society. Until now, he is not helping us because there have been significant cuts and we have lost teachers; resulting in bigger classes. I can say that the Governor’s actions are incomprehensible because he is not thinking of how these cuts are affecting us. Teacher and student CLAIM a better education, so we can have a better future.
